In January of 2025 two things happened in rapid succession: my mother gave me some souper cubes for Christmas, and my husband surprise lost his job. Since he is the one who likes to cook and he found himself with more free time than we wanted, I decided to get a little intense about saving money via bulk cooking and freezing meals. I had no idea how much we’d love it!

Favorite Recipes

These are our go-to freezer meals that we make again & again. Most of them we freeze in our souper cubes, but the taquitos can just go in ziplock bags!

I was initially somewhat dubious about Souper Cubes because I don’t actually like soup very much. But we actually almost never freeze soup! Carnitas, Stroganoff, Alfredo, Pizza Sauce, Shawarma, Stir Fry… the key for me, it turned out, was having so much variety in the freezer that I didn’t have to eat the same leftovers more than once every 7-10 days.

It took a little while to get our stash up to where we could eat mostly from the freezer, but you can start slowly! We started by buying supplies to make a triple serving of one of our favorite recipes (which usually is more cost effective than a single one!) each weekend.
